Many people choose to move into assisted living for the reassurance of knowing that there is always someone available to help if needed or in the event of an emergency. Providing people with the security and independence of living in their own private home, Abbeyfield residents benefit from access to a range of onsite facilities and support when needed.
The main factor that sets assisted living or sheltered accommodation apart from a residential care home is that residents’ homes are equipped with all their own facilities, enabling them to live as independently as they wish.
At Abbeyfield (Canvey Island) Society sheltered accommodation, we have 10 lovely private single rooms and 1 spacious double. Each with its own private ensuite facilities as well as a small kitchen, residents are provided with everything they would need to remain in the privacy of their room should they wish. Each room also has its own key, to ensure optimum privacy for everyone.
At Abbeyfield (Canvey Island) Society, residents are required to provide their own furnishings for their room and are welcome to bring their furnishings from home. We find that this helps to make residents feel more at home in their new surroundings while retaining a sense of familiarity from their previous home.
As well as furnishing their own rooms, residents are also required to provide their own curtains, linen and towels. Having freshly decorated and carpeted each room in neutral tones, this enables residents to adapt the décor of their room as they choose.
Each bedroom has its own television aerial socket. Importantly each resident is responsible for arranging their own telephone line at their own cost as this supports the essential Careline system which enables us to provide the 24 hour emergency service. A call button along with a personal pendant is provided as part of the Careline system.
With a bus stop located directly outside Abbeyfield (Canvey Island) Society, residents can take advantage of a regular bus service that can transport them to the nearby railway station, Southend, Basildon, or the local town centre just 1 mile away, enabling residents to continue living independently and enjoying the local area.
Located 1 mile to the Thames Estuary, residents can enjoy outings with friends, family or other residents, making the most of the inviting local seafront and its restaurants, cafes and waterfront seating.
