One of the most important aspects of sheltered accommodation is the events and activities individuals can benefit from throughout the year, providing a fulfilling social life and enabling residents to partake in hobbies and activities they choose.
Some of our most popular and anticipated yearly events include our bi-yearly outings to nearby Hadleigh, where Rotary provides us with afternoon tea with entertainment. Each Christmas, we kick-off the Christmas season with a trip to the pantomime – the highlight of the festive season for some of our residents. Several local choirs (including from nearby schools) visit the house at Christmas to entertain the residents.
Abbeyfield house is proud to be a keypart of the community within easy reach of local churches (including visits from the clergy) and the local town centre. Residents can also enjoy regular table sales in the church or at Abbeyfield where residents can purchase new items for their rooms, i.e. books, flowers, games or other small trinkets.
A hairdresser and chiropodist visit the house on request for residents to see at their own expense.
Around the house residents can enjoy gardening with their friends, bingo, a computer and WIFI services available to all residents, as well as a variety of indoor and outdoor pursuits and activities for residents to participate in if they wish.
As well as internal activities organised by our staff, we have regular volunteers who work closely with our residents and several activities to help enrich their daily life.
